Tree Trimming for Lee's Summit Yards

Yes, we do tree trimming and pruning on properties across town, and we come up from our base in Raymore to do it.

In Raintree Lake, Lakewood and Lake Ridge Meadows, and downtown too, the trouble tends to look the same: shade trees that have grown out over the roof, into the gutters and low across the drive. Limbs do not get there in a single season, and they are far easier to get ahead of on a calendar than after a summer storm has laid one on the shingles.

That is why we like to book shaping work for late fall and winter, when the leaves are down, every limb shows and the tree is dormant, the timing the MU Extension guide to pruning and care of shade trees sets out for most shade trees. A dead or cracked limb is the exception: it comes off in any season, because waiting only gives it the chance to fall.

What a Lee's Summit Trimming Visit Covers

A visit takes out the deadwood, clears limbs back off the roof and the drive, and thins or raises the crown where the tree needs it. The brush and debris go through the chipper before we leave.

  • Deadwood out

Dead and dying limbs come down before they drop on the roof, the car or the patio. It is the cut that heads off a storm call later.

  • Roof and drive clearance

Limbs on the shingles or over the gutters are cut back to a side branch, and branches over the drive are lifted so cars pass under clean.

  • Crown thinning

Selected branches come out of the inside of the canopy, so wind and light get through and long limbs carry less weight.

  • Crown raising

The lowest limbs come off the trunk, so you can mow, walk and park under the tree and the lawn below gets sun again.

Lee's Summit Yards and Trees

Two things about this town shape how we plan a trim here: how old the neighborhoods are, and the ground they sit on.

1994

The median year a home here was built

Half the houses in town went up in 1994 or later, and the shade trees planted with those subdivisions have had time to reach the roofline and spread over the drive. So roof clearance and crown raising are most of the work here, and the sooner they start, the smaller the cuts.

Wet ground

Soil here drains poorly

Ground that drains poorly stays soaked long after a storm, and a soaked root plate loses its grip. A tree that starts to lean over wet ground, or shows soil heaving at its base, which we call "root lifting", is not a wait-and-see case: call us that day. Thinning a heavy crown on a dry day takes some of that load off the roots before the next storm.

Trimming questions we hear

What months should you not trim trees?

We steer clear of shaping cuts in spring, while the leaves are coming out and the tree is putting its energy into new growth. Late fall through winter, with the tree dormant, is the best time for most shade trees. Dead, cracked or hanging limbs come off in any month.

Who is responsible for tree trimming around electrical wires?

Limbs in the power lines along the street are the utility's to clear, and branches near the line running to your house are a call to the power company before they are a call to us. Once the line is clear, the rest of the tree is ours to trim. If a limb is down on a line, stay well back from it and from anything it touches.

Ready to get those limbs off the house?

Call and tell us about the trees at your place. We come out, look them over and quote the whole trim for free.
